Corner View "White"

"White"... Like Rome last February... Remember juanita tortilla and michela coin? I know I've said that in Rome "never snow"... that "Roman Winters are wonderful"... Ok. But  you two have had Fontana di Trevi all for you!...  And I had a wonderful time, with you two!

About three years ago, a friend gave it to me a printed fabric ready to cut out two dolls. A blogger friend suggested the names for them, and as they were two English ladies, she said "Hermione and Gertrude" it will fit all right for them. I meant to sell them at some Summer Craft Fair; but then, a friend opened a small jewelry shop, and asked me to help her with it.
She fell in love with Hermione and Gertrude, so the shop became their home as our avatars. I was Gertrude and she was Hermione.
We had a lot of fun at the shop, crafting, repairing and selling. Frequently, we repaired old, loved jewelry: fake pearl necklaces, some aunt or grandmother's legacy, that we stringed with knots as if it were the Queen's one.
I've been in the shop for about a year and a half. Then, my husband retired and we decided to stay at our holiday home for a long time...
From time to time, I came back to check the bills and the house, and we talk about how we were happy at the shop...
Suddenly, the 1st of August, the day of her Birthday, Serena-Hermione, left alone Juana-Gertrude...They  will remember me of our friendship for ever, sweet Serena...
And I will miss you always...

CV "Spirituality"

Some "CV" ago, I think I talk about this theme; anyway, I love to have the opportunity to talk again. I am a housewife, it has been a choice since I decided to found a family, more than thirty years ago.
It has been a great change for a girl who backpacked  the world in the 70's. I discovered the pains and joys of housekeeping, and the joys of motherhood despite the solitude with a baby without a mother or siblings nearby to help. I hated (and still do) go to the supermaket,
But still today, when I am at the sink, after I have feed my family, with all the dishes waiting to be washed, that I take my time to meditate and to think about life and the fate or whatever brought me here and about the time that has passed by so in a hurry.
A couple of years ago, a person asked me why I do not have a dishwasher. I told her. And she sent me a book and a note with this words:

"To my mind, the idea that doing the dishes is unpleasant can occur only when you are not doing them. Once you are standing in front of the sink with your sleeves rolled up and your hands in warm water, it really is not so bad. I enjoy taking my time with each dish, being fully aware of the dish, the water, and each movement of my hands. I know that if I hurry in order to go and have a cup of tea, the time will be unpleasant and not worth living. That would be a pity, for each minute, each second of life is a miracle. The dishes themselves and the fact that I am here washing them are miracles! Each bowl I wash, each poem I compose, each time I invite a bell to sound is a miracle, each has exactly the same value. One day, while washing a bowl, I felt that my movements were as sacred and respectful as bathing a newborn Buddha. If he were to read this, that newborn Buddha would certainly be happy for me, and not at all insulted at being compared with a bowl". ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Yes. Even washing the dishes could be zen. Or maybe obeys to the law of my karma?

CV "(not) longing"

I am here since July and will be staying until the first week of Dicember... It is a place I dreamed about all my life.
Coming from a country in which the next neighbor lives at ten or more kmts, I imagined, since I was a child, what would it be to live in one of these tiny villages where the houses are one close to the other and  separated by a tiny streets, and you can talk to your neighbor from your window... I found this place, and even if I love my home near a beautiful place like Rome, I am not in a hurry to come back!

Vintage box and old newspapers

I've bought this vintage box at a flea market. I've been wondering for all this time about its use. Maybe   a watch holder or something like that?.
At the same time, I've been carrying for about forty (yes, 40) years some really old (1908) newspapers, (but this is another story, and another post!) Well, now the inspiration come and I put together vintage box and old newspapers before they go to shreds...and we'll see  what will come out...

CV "In the sky"

I the town where we have our vacation home the new owner of the castle, really a 13th century military fortress, begun the works to renew the building, so they started at the clock tower, taking down the "umbrella" with the vane and the bells. Of course was an event, and all the town was at the piazza to see it, since anybody could remember how many years had gone since the last time the had seen so closely the bells. Great event, really!

"Where I live" Walls

Well, this is not exactly where I live, if we are talking about the town; but its Orvieto, which is in Italy, the country where I live, and since I didn't found any interestings walls in my town, I am showing this pics I took last Summer in that beautiful city, I love the textures of the ancient walls, and the contrast with the modern art works of the "Bottega Michelangeli" famous wood artisans.

CV "Mother"

When I was five years old, my parents separated; I, the older of three siblings, had been taking in charge for some years by a cousin; it has been the first of the many times my mother and I were separated and stayed together, so our relationship has been an accidented one. Nevertheless, I have so many memories of those periods we spent only the two of us. I remember the Sundays at the cinema, watching all the series of "Sissi", and then, after the film, in the late afternoon she loved to dance at the local dance club... She danced and I just fell asleep listening the "boleros", romantic 50's songs, she loved so much, (I don't know why; but noise makes me sleepy!)
On August, 2010 she passed away. We meet for the last time 15 years ago. For one week, since she's been at the hospital, I've called my sister every day. When she gave me the news, even if in family we speak only Italian, I just went to my son's room and told him: "Tu abuela ha fallecido esta noche" (your grandma passed away last night). In Spanish, my mother tongue... He gave a hug and told me: "well, you didn't spent so much time with her" and I answered " I can tell you now: The pain its just the same"...

Where I live Fridays: "Doors"

Traffic police office door

city hall door
Beach cabin doors
I live in one of the newest cities in Italy, It is the last of the "new cities" founde by Mussolini, in the 30' s, as can be seen on the upperside of the door of one of the building: 17th year of the Fascist Era, (yes, he thought himself  God and so started a new Era. Actually, is History, so its stay there as a part of the past of the city.
The city hall door, instead, has been made by the students of the local  Art School.
We are also at 7kmts from the see, a place where leggend says Eaneas desembarked after the Troy war. And the cabin's door during the Winter.
Thanks Francesca, for giving me another way to keep my blog active!

CV "Hmmmm..."

I bet there will be a lot of "Hmmmm...", looking at this pic I took last week while walking in Rome!
Have a nice Wednesday, cornerviewers!

Rome walking tour

It was a rainy May 1st; but Rome's State Museums  were open and the ticket's prize was 1euro... so who minds the rain if I can save 6euros?
This is one of the least known of the four Roman Museums. Its undergrown excavations allows and insight of the multilayered Rome's past; but what fascinates me was the collection of everyday items, like the ceramics, the beautiful lanterns, that little horse its really a masterpiece, I found also that the ladies of Ancient Rome used to do crochet! And of course, I love those rooms with a view!

Corner View: "A room with a view"

The former papal stables at the Quirinale, now redesigned, houses contemporary art exhibits, all interesting and worth the ticket and the long queues. The same for the unique view: From the caffetteria, the Piazza del Quirinale, from the window at the stairs, Rome in all its beauty Saint Peter's cupola in the background.
Yes Rome can be a chaotic city; but after more than thirty years living near it, I still am fascinated.

Corner view "egg"

Last Sunday, Easter Day, we came back home for supper after having lunch at my sister in law. Right after, our son came back home too, carrying a six eggs pack. We thought he'd bought them for his supper; but as soon as I've got into the kitchen he took one egg from the pack and throw it at me telling me: "Catch it up"!. Of course, I was terryfied at the vision of  an egg crashed on the floor like Humpty Dumpty. He went on for about 5 minutes with me running around the house. and even if I was almost certain the egg was a fake one, I kept catching it up the thing... Of course, it was a chocolate egg pack somebody gave it to him as an Easter present.
Hope you all had had a Happy Easter Day!

This is my very first crochet necklace! And I can say I am quite satisfied with the work. Waiting to find a beige cotton to complete the one I started, I made this in merino's wool, soft and light. My chaotic work table has another craft on the go!

Corner view "Crafting"

I am a caothic crafter... and since I am not able to draw a pattern, I just go  where the materials take me. In this case, from this bunch of stones, paper beads, free form crochet, flowers and rings, should come out a necklace for my niece...I don't know how; but I bet it will come out!
See you next week with the finished product... I hope.
